I'm a non-smoker, and this isn't like some judgemental thing.
I was just wondering if you have ever calculated how much money you spend on Cigarettes each year?
Or weekly or monthy.

I am a non-smoker too. But my mom smoked up til the day she died (at age 60). She was much thinner than I am and I am now going on 67. She was a diabetic from about age 40 & I was diagnosed with diabetes last year but I take no medicine for the diabetes & my mom took insulin twice a day. She died at age 60 (tuned 60 in June of 1971 & died in October 1971). I will turn 67 in July. I think that tobacco played a big part in her early death.
I should have sued!
My Mother died at 84 from emphysema and complications from encephalitis, she averaged 2 packs of Marlboros a day.
My maternal Grandmother died at 96, she averaged 1 pack of Larks a day with a cigarette holder and an extra filter. She died from a self-inflected gunshot to the head. She had advanced glaucoma and refused to go into a nursing home. She made it clear that the only way she would leave her house was feet first. And she did.
My Grandmothers Grandfather smoked cigars all day long and died at 110.
My Dad smoked cigars all day long and died at 86 from prostrate cancer.
While I can?t deny that smoking killed my Mother, I don?t think it caused the death of my Dad, Grandmother and Greatgreat Grandfather.
I believe it has more to do with genetics.
If you have family history of early lung disease, like if your Mother died from lung cancer at 50, then you should not smoke.
If you have a family history without lung disease then smoke in moderation.
I smoke 1 cigar a day and there isn?t anybody or any statistic that will convince me that I will die from it. With my Father, Uncle and 1 cousin all having prostate cancer, I?m more worried about that.
As for the cost.
365 x $4.00 = $1460.00
A lot cheaper that a year of golf.

One day my boys came home, and they told me that they saw (gasp!) CIGARETTES in the pocket on the driver side door of KP's car. (He quit when our sons were born but started up secretly about 5 years ago, I have known for about 2 years - so he was keeping it secret from me too).
They asked him why they were there (BUSTED!). He said, ".....um......um..... they are there because "{his affair partner}" smokes." Too funny, first he lies to his kids and then he blames the cigs on the woman he would like them to like. They can smell the smoke on him, sometimes he just REEKS. And when they learn that he DOES smoke, they will blame HER for him starting (when it is actually the reverse).
Let's see, he probably spends over $1000 a year on this life-shortening habit.
I did smoke at one time, but was never a heavy smoker and I havent had a cig in at least 3 or 4 years.
My dad died fairly young and he was a smoker (heart attack)
You are right Trav, your is much cheaper (but I dont golf either LOL!)
I was just wondering, because I did at one time when I was a smoker figure out how many hours a week I had to work to pay for Cigs.
When I used to go out 7 nights a week to the bars, I did the same thing, Turns out that I might as well have just sent the brewery my paychecks back then.
Still like my and wine, but it's something that might surprise people if they ever took a few minutes to figure it out.
And I havent been a regular smoker for at least 6 years.
(I had a few off and on for a couple of years)

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Actually, for most people it's a lot more expensive than that. Healthwise, it appears your family is the exception rather than the rule. For most smokers, the habit means a shorter life, poorer health, higher health costs.Originally posted by travelinman:

A recent study showed that smokers have a higher tolerance for alcohol, thus they are capable of drinking more. No wonder bar owners are against the smoking ban!
